Group Profile: Healthcare Company
Healthcare Company – A healthcare network, consisting of half a dozen hospitals and multiple other health-care facilities spread across several hundred miles of rural towns and small cities, had come together through a series of mergers, often with a cloud of financial stress overhanging the transaction.
A new CEO had been brought in to inject energy and leadership in the struggling network. He hired a consulting firm to help drive a culture change. One of their first steps was to level-set with the Executive Team and hand-picked Culture Champions from across the network.
AgileBrain joined them in running a culture workshop, the centerpiece of which was a tailored, real-time AgileBrain exercise.

Interpreting the Profile
The results showed high degrees of activation, particularly in the area of Ethics and Potential, which along with Safety skewed negative. We formed break-outs to dig deeper on those three emotional needs.
Digging Deeper
Perhaps the most interesting finding was around Ethics. Executives had a hard time understanding what this could be (after all, as a hospital chain, they prided themselves on ethical behavior) until a nurse chimed in, “we are so short-staffed and over-worked, that we can’t afford to discipline or fire anyone. We’re putting up with all kinds of bad behavior.” This insight was a wake-up call for the Executive Team and illustrated the power of emotions in culture (employees don’t check their emotions at the door!)
