Lois’s Profile
Lois is a highly accomplished young professional. After building her career with a big tech firm, Lois jumped to a start-up with a strong social mission. Then her boss left.
Lois registers a strong response in three emotional areas. Success is her strongest emotional response (dark blue signaling intensity) and more negative than positive (larger share of pie is orange). Caring and Ethics are strong (medium blue) and more positive (larger share of pie is blue).

Interpreting Lois’s Profile
Lois took AgileBrain and sat down a few days later with her coach. Rather than starting with the obvious (Success), her coach asked Lois to describe her life in general.
Lois explained that she was comfortable with who she is (shades of light blue, indicating “settled” in the Self domain) and what she can do (shades of light blue indicating “settled” in Autonomy and Immersion).
“I don’t need a lot of affirmation; I know I’m good at my job” (pale blue indicating “settled” in Recognition), Lois explained.
Probing Deeper with Lois
All that sounds good. So, why the strong, negative reaction in Success? Lois was really clear: “I made this move to take my career to the next level. I really thought I could flourish in the role my manager described for me.
Now she’s gone, and the company is waffling about what to do.” Lois’s new teammates are looking out for her (Caring) and the company is a much healthier workplace than her former employer (Ethics).
Still, she feels that “the company knew about the departure before hiring me; they should have been straight with me” (negative Caring, negative Ethics).
The ‘Now What?’ for Lois
Lois’ coach was able to her see the linkages between her goals and her fear of Failure. As a result, she has been able to communicate honestly and effectively with senior management about her concerns, which directly address her reservations about the company’s Caring and Ethics. Indeed, Lois asked them hold off hiring a new boss. She’s got this!
